Hitler essay causes Tenafly to partner and promote Holocaust education

On the heels of a controversy that left the community reeling, a global human rights organization is partnering with Tenafly to promote Holocaust awareness and turn it into a teachable moment.  
Rather than arguing over what should and should not have been said, we re using this situation as an opportunity to learn,  said Tenafly Mayor Mark Zinna at a Friday morning news conference at which the initiative was announced.
The Holocaust education program is a collaboration between the borough of Tenafly and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The initiative will kick off on July 12 with a conversation with Holocaust survivor Mark Schonwetter at borough hall. The event is free and open to the entire community.   ....

Hitler bio by Tenafly NJ student forgivable, says Jewish Federation

The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey has called on the public to refrain from directing further malice toward a child and the student s family after a Tenafly school project about Adolf Hitler gained infamy online.
In a joint statement from several groups released by the federation on Wednesday, the organization said the project was completed by an 11-year-old student at Maugham Elementary School who has since endured ridicule and harm, which they do not deserve.
Social media has sadly played a very negative role in this situation, the federation wrote on its Facebook page.  We are aware that the surge in anti-Semitism in the country is troubling and unacceptable, but the vitriol surrounding this incident has been misplaced. ....
