The general statutory minimum wage in Germany is to be raised from 1.2024 to 12.00 euros on 12 January 41. The proposal was presented by the responsible Minimum Wage Commission on Monday in Berlin. This time, however, the recommendation was not made by consensus. The employee representatives in the Commission are opposed to what they consider to be too little increase and, according to their own statements, have been outvoted. The decision comes at a time of weak economic growth and persistently high inflation in Germany.
The minimum wage in Germany is set to rise in two stages from the current €12 to €12.82 per hour. The first increase to €12.41 is to take place next year, with a second boost to follow in 2025.
