After playing back-to-back games of more than four hours apiece and capturing the Big East baseball tournament title on Sunday night, all UConn baseball coach Jim Penders wanted to do was get something to eat and get some sleep. Coming into Friday, the Huskies were one of the hottest teams in the country winning 9 of their last ten games and outscoring opponents by a total of 75 runs to 28 runs in those wins. They stayed hot Friday night by blanking the Georgetown Bulldogs with a score of 10-0 in their first of four games against them this weekend.
To start off the series, the Huskies turned to their ace, Ben Casparius, who went seven shutout innings while recording 15 strikeouts and allowing just five hits and one walk. He had all of his pitches working Friday night, including his changeup, which Coach Jim Penders said is “the best right-handed changeup that we’ve ever had in our program.”

Texas Tech plays host to the University of Connecticut this weekend in a four game set that runs Friday through Monday. The Red Raiders are coming off of a two game mid-week sweep of the Gonzaga Bulldogs by scores of 5-4 and 5-4. Tuesday night Tech beat Gonzaga by a score of 5-4 in a game that was close throughout and had the Red Raiders sweating in the later innings of the game. The Red Raiders jumped out to an early one run lead on a Jace Jung homer that glanced off of the left field foul pole and Dylan Neuse had an RBI single in the third.
