he is a great american, great patriot, he has served nasa for 42 years. we arelso true that moving to a new era in human spaceflight. where the administration is interested in going fast. interested in doing things a different way. we believe it is important to leadership. it was entirely my decision. at the end of the day, we need to be very clear that nasa is schedule.to call and i thought it was important to make this change at this time. a quick follow on that. coming at a time when we are about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of apollo 11. , the program of returning to the moon. you reassigned ahead of human exploration. why was that done at this moment? jim: we are landing on the south pole of the moon with the next man and the first woman in 2024. we don t have a lot of time to waste. if we are going to have new leadership it needs to happen now. a lot of things need to go right. the schedule matters. schedule matters not just what happened 50 years ago we are pr

as the administrator of nasa. thanks for joining us. jim: thank you. host: joining him is christian davenport, who covers the space and defense industries. and a senior writer for space news. both of you, thanks for joining us. mr. administrator, on wednesday you announced that you were signing a couple of key administration officials including the longtime associate administrator for human exploration operations. why make that change and why now? jim: we just reassigned him to a different role inside of nasa. he is a great american, great patriot, he has served nasa for 42 years. it is also true that we are moving to a new era in human spaceflight. where the administration is interested in going fast. interested in doing things a different way. we believe it is important to have new leadership. it was entirely my decision. at the end of the day, we need to be very clear that nasa is committed to cost and schedule. i thought it was important to make this change at this time
