Doherty wins Optimist Club essay contest

A West Elgin Secondary School student has been awarded for writing the winning essay in a local contest.
Paige Doherty won $200 and a certificate from the West Lorne Optimist Club, which runs the contest every year. Doherty’s essay, which was on a topic called Reaching your Dreams by Choosing Optimism, will be entered in a district level competition for a $2,500 prize.

She will be moving on to post-secondary education at the University of Guelph.
The club’s contest is open to secondary students 18 and under as of Oct. 1 of the current Optimist International contest year. ....

Although the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay has had to adjust some of its events in the past year, they participated in two yearly events hosted by Optimist International, the Essay and Oratorical contests.
This year’s winners of the Essay Contest are Elberta Middle School students Hartley Gunderson, Gold; Riley Anne Pugh, Silver and Avery Pickle, Bronze. Hartley went on to the District competition. This year’s theme was “Reaching Your Dreams by Choosing Optimism.” ....

Optimist Club names student essay contest winners

In a virtual ceremony held Jan. 18, the Sussex Optimist Club announced the winners for its 2020-21 Optimist International Essay Contest.
First-place winner was Josiah Moore from Milford High School. Yeraldin Torres-Landeros from Seaford High School won second place, and third place went to Anjolie Suberro from Woodbridge High School. All three winners received a certificate, a medallion and a monetary prize.
Moore’s essay has been forwarded to the district level where his essay will compete with other winners from Optimist Clubs in Delaware and Maryland.
The essays were written on the theme of Reaching your Dreams by Choosing Optimism and were judged in a two-tier system by six judges. Seven Sussex County schools participated this year.  ....
