JUST IN: Chombwe Pfumvudza crops in good shape
George Maponga in Masvingo
Crops grown under the Pfumvudza concept with irrigation support from the $8million Chombwe Piped Water Scheme in northern Chivi are in excellent condition pointing to a bumper harvest in the area for the first time in years.
The scheme was commissioned by President Mnangagwa in December last year after being bankrolled using devolution funds.
Among the crops being grown under a model Pfumvudza project on an area straddling two hectares near Chombwe Hill, is maize, cowpeas, sorghum, rapoko and sunflower.
Provincial Agritex Officer Mr Aaron Muchazivepi is upbeat about prospects of a bumper harvest saying the the crop situation at Chombwe was testimony of the efficacy of the Pfumvudza concept.

2020: Anchor for Zim’s success

Development Dialogue
Covid-19 hit our shores with devastating consequences in 2020, affecting business and ultimately slowing the development trajectory set by President Mnangagwa’s Government.
We are not yet out of the woods with regards to this disease, but there is hope and optimism that 2021 will bring better tidings.
Although Covid-19 played some tricks on the country, it was not all doom and gloom when it came to the implementation of developmental programmes.
If I was allowed to name 2020 in developmental terms, I would call it “The Anchor of Development in Zimbabwe”.
For it was indeed the year in which the country set the base for future development and made all the fundamentals right as a prerequisite for a massive take-off in development.
President Calls for Completion of Mhandamabwe Road
December 28, 2020
President Mnangagwa has ordered Treasury to release funds for the completion of rehabilitation works on the Chivi-Mhandamabwe Road which links Beitbridge Border Post to western parts of the country.
Rehabilitation works on the road stopped early this year owing to funding constraints after 30km out of 48km had been covered.
The road links Chibi Turn-Off Business Centre, off the Harare-Beitbridge highway, with Mhandamabwe Growth Point in the rural Chivi heartland.
Mhandamabwe is strategically located with a network that links it to Zvishavane and Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo City and Beitbridge, making the road a key passageway for goods and human traffic.
