A friend recently found some old newspaper clippings from the
Ashland Daily Independent that were tucked away in one of her grandmotherâs old catalogs. Some of them dated back to 1917 but were in incredibly good shape. She posted many of the clipped-out articles and shared them on Facebook. Flipping through her Facebook post was fascinating and educational, like having a time capsule in front of you.
I donât claim to know everything about Ashland â especially outside the sports arena â but Iâve long been a fan of reading old newspapers via microfilm machines. The writing is creative yet in a far different way from today. Most of the sports reports never included any comments from coaches or players but often lists the entire starting lineup in football and basketball and practically every play that happened. ....

BATH A new holiday compilation album from the Chocolate Church Arts Center is featuring new recordings of original works and classic holiday music by artists that fans of the center will recognize.
The compilation is available on the center’s website at chocolatechurcharts.org and features 11 Maine artists. It may be streamed for free or downloaded for $10, with all proceeds benefiting the center. The Chocolate Church Arts Center has released a compilation of traditional and original Christmas songs performed by Maine-based artists, including Schooner Fare and Lauren Crosby, among others. A link to the compilation is available at the CCAC website, and it may be streamed for free, or downloaded for $10.
The compilation includes submissions from 11 Maine artists. Schooner Fare contributed their original track “What Christmas Means to Me” while songwriter Lauren Crosby recorded a version of a Billie Todd song titled “One Christmas Eve.” Songwriter and producer Peter Gallway shared his song “Christmas Roses.” Jud Caswell adds his own “The Long Walk Home.” ....
