Matt s Picks: Eugene Grid Project at Eugene Airport, Black Lives at the UO
Art, music and the Black experience continues through the end of February here in Eugene-Springfield. During the dreariest time of year, as the pandemic approaches one year, cultural events and exhibitions help to cease the slow creep of an isolating perspective. Whether it be braving the outside or simply surfing online, CAFE 541 offers some opportunity for readers to take some time to widen the mind.
Airport Art Gallery, Maude Kerns Center and the Eugene Grid Project
For about three years, the Eugene Grid Project has engaged a group of local photographers assigned to capturing different sections of Eugene-Springfield. This continues what began as a project in 2008, modeled after 1995’s Portland Grid Project.

Summer fun
Fun could be headed back to Portland parks this summer.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions, the Portland Parks & Recreation s summer parks programs were canceled in 2020. But, Commissioner Carmen Rubio and the City Council have been working on restoring funding for many things, including the summer programs.
If COVID-19 and government restrictions allow, we could see the return of:
• Free Lunch & Play: Serving more than 100,000 meals to alleviate hunger.
• Summer camps: Outdoor day camps, sports and art camps would be available at 20 locations.
