on june 4th, 1989, 30 years ago this week, the chinese government open fire on students and democracy activists in beijing s tiananmen square. the next day the tank man offered a powerful protest even as he was laden down with bags. his real name will probably never be known, but his brave actions will be remembered for ages. he stood in front of a line of tanks, more than 20 long, and proceeded to play a game of chicken. he climbed atop the lead tank, then back down to the ground. when the tank tried to speed off, he stepped in front again. and then nobody knows what happened to him. to this day, the chinese government censures all mentions
