Some experts considered the move a significant gesture of stabilizing bilateral relations, as Tokyo could make some tactical diplomatic adjustments in engaging with Beijing and easing tensions, considering its domestic political and economic dilemma as well as geopolitical challenges on the global stage.

Chinese President Xi Jinping had his first meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Thursday in Thailand on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders meeting, during which Xi said China is ready to work with Japan to grasp the general direction of bilateral relations from a strategic height and build a China-Japan relationship that meets the demands of the new era.
