Meira Paibi, a collective of Meitei women in India, have demanded the removal of the Assam Rifles paramilitary force from five valley districts in Imphal, following violence which has claimed over 160 lives. The confrontations stemmed from ethnic clashes between Kukis and Meiteis, which broke out in May and have continued for three months.
Pointing out that the “recent violence that erupted in Manipur was not on religious line,” COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra stressed that it was between immigrant Chin-Kuki Narco-Terrorist Groups and indigenous Meetei communities of Manipur.
