2021-01-15 13:36:06 GMT2021-01-15 21:36:06(Beijing Time) Xinhua English by Peerzada Arshad Hamid SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) As the mercury plummets in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the iconic Dal Lake in the region s summer capital Srinagar has frozen to a solid mass, officials said Friday. Following the heavy snow earlier this month, the region has been witnessing a steep drop in the mercury. Thursday night saw the temperature in Srinagar at minus 7.6 degrees centigrade. For over a week the region has witnessed dry weather, which has triggered icy winds. Initially, only the edges of the lake froze but now a major portion of the lake has frozen to a solid mass, said Iftikhar Ahmad, a boatman.
