DALTON For Pamela Spencer, coaching the Dalton High School softball team has always been about more than training strong athletes and winning games. I tell my girls all the time: I m not just shaping you to be softball players, said Spencer, who is in her second year as head coach. I want to shape you to be really awesome individuals when you leave high school.
This season, the 32-member team was looking to give back and offer some holiday magic to a family facing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.
So players adopted a single mother and her three kids, all under 6 years old, through the Children s Network of Stark County. Because of their donations, the family will wake up to a large pile of gifts on Christmas morning.
