The Brant County Health Unit on Wednesday reported three deaths from COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours.
All three cases involved men who were hospitalized at the time of their deaths.

The health unit said one was in his 60s and had close contact with a confirmed case transmission. He also had the E484K and N501Y mutations.
The second was in his 70s and had no known epidemiological link for the virus, which means that a link to a close contact with the man has not been identified. It is suspected that he contracted the virus through community transmission. The N501Y mutation was detected.

Despite a lower daily COVID-19 case count in the province, Brantford-Brant saw its new cases increase Tuesday.
Following 18 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the Brant County Health Unit reported on Tuesday 30 new cases in the past 24 hours.

That is in sharp contrast to the province, which registered 2,791 new cases on Tuesday, the first time Ontario has been below 3,000 since April 5. There were 3,436 cases reported in the province Monday.
Although new cases increased in Brantford-Brant, active cases remain stable. There are 178 active cases currently in the community compared to 176 on Monday.

There was a significant drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases last week in Brantford and Brant County.
For the week ended May 2, the Brant County Health Unit recorded 164 new positive cases. That is down from 245 cases for the week ended April 25 and a record 269 for the week ended April 18.

The number of active cases in the area now is 176. A week ago. there were more than 306.

The Brant County Health Unit reported Sunday 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
There are 175 active cases currently in Brantford-Brant.

The total number of confirmed cases since the began is 2,741, adjusted downward by six because those individuals belonged to a health unit in a different jurisdiction.
Of the total cases, 2,549 people have recovered, while 17 have passed away.
There are 22 people being treated in hospital for the virus, 19 of which are local residents.
The total number of confirmed new cases for the week is 146, a decline from 240 for the week ending April 25, and 269 the prior week.
