A 35-year-old man was struck by a stray bullet while riding the Route 56 SEPTA bus in Frankford early Tuesday morning, police said. The passenger was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for treatment. The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents on Philadelphia's public transit system.
SEPTA will deploy a gun detection artificial intelligence software on its surveillance cameras as part of a pilot program to monitor the Market-Frankford and Broad Street Line subway platforms. The pilot program, expected to begin early next year, will utilize technology developed by Conshohocken-based ZeroEyes, whose proprietary software is used by the U.S. Department of Defense. SEPTA hopes the technology can thwart gun-related crime.
A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon while riding a SEPTA Broad Street Line subway in the area of Fairmount Station in North Philadelphia, police said. Rashod Born, 16, has been charged with homicide and related offenses in the incident, which authorities said stemmed from an attempted robbery. Born also was shot in the arm during the struggle.
