The family of Lurgan man Gerry McKerr, one of 14 men tortured after they were detained by security forces in 1971, attended a special meeting with the PSNI on Tuesday at which they received an apology for the actions of police officers at that time.
The PSNI has apologised to the men who were subjected to horrific treatment in 1971 after the British Supreme Court ruled that a decision by police not to investigate what happened to them was unlawful.
The PSNI said in its apology to the 14 'Hooded Men' that it acknowledges the treatment the men endured in 1971 would today be characterized as torture.
