The International Criminal Court (ICC) broke its commitment to decide the case of Turkish settlements in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Wednesday, when a prosecutor who vowed to tackle the issue completed her term, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Fatou Bensouda had publicly committed to the issue in February during a virtual conference on European affairs, the newspaper said, but her office on Tuesday failed to make any announcements on Turkish settlements and Northern Cyprus, before her term expired on Wednesday.
Cyprus remains divided since 1974, when Turkey sent troops to the island to counter a Greek-backed coup. In 1983, the Turkish Cypriot leadership proclaimed the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognised only by Turkey. Numerous diplomatic initiatives aimed at reunifying the island have taken place since 1974, but none have thus far succeeded.

Israeli writers and academics warn ICC not to trust Israel to investigate its war crimes

A group of more than 180 Israeli intellectuals, writers and academics have called on the International Criminal Court s chief prosecutor not to accept Israel s own findings into alleged war crimes. In a letter addressed to Fatou Bensouda, the signatories warned that the regime does not intend to carry out a serious investigation into the allegations.
Instead they suggested that the Hague-based ICC should instead seek the assistance of Israeli human rights organisations to gather evidence of war crimes said to have been committed by the Israel Defence Forces.

DOZENS KILLED DURING INTER-COMMUNAL CLASHES IN WEST DARFUR
At least 87 people have been killed and 191 injured since violence broke out between the Arab Rizeigat and Masalit communities on Saturday, 3 April, around the city of El Geneina in West Darfur, Sudan. Members of both communities mobilized local militias after two members of the Masalit community were killed by unidentified armed men. Heavy weaponry and rocket-propelled grenades were reportedly used, hitting a hospital and a UN compound. A local power station has been destroyed and there is currently no electricity in the area. According to the UN, 108,000 internally displaced people residing in the Krinding camps in West Darfur were also forced to flee because of the violence.
