It's been more than 6 months since former Chief Larry Boone abruptly retired. They initially wanted to hire a new top cop by October, but it's taking a tad longer.
As part of Norfolk's search for a new police chief, the city will host an in-person public forum to collect input from residents from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center located on the campus of Norfolk State University.
The change in leadership comes as police have responded to three separate shootings in recent weeks in Downtown Norfolk. Four people have died and more injured.
T.C. Williams served as an assistant chief since Sept. 2018. His retirement is slated to take effect May 1 and comes weeks after Chief Larry Boone stepped down.
