The city will accept applications for a 30-day period beginning by the end of the week. Filer said the city is already fielding interest in the position from potential internal and external candidates, including some from out of state.
Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the City of Norfolk is inviting community members to attend a public discussion surrounding their search for a new chief of police.
As part of Norfolk's search for a new police chief, the city will host an in-person public forum to collect input from residents from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center located on the campus of Norfolk State University.
The Chesapeake, Norfolk and Portsmouth police departments were all in the market for new police chiefs following a series of departures this year. Chesapeake last week selected longtime Deputy Chief Mark Solesky to fill the position left vacant by former Police Chief Kelvin Wright.
