Only one occupant was in the vehicle. Police Officer Brad Savage arrived first to the scene and saw that the car was on fire, and it was rapidly spreading from the engine compartment to the main cabin. Officer Savage made the split second decision to pull the unconscious driver out of the car and to safety. Had Savage not acted when he did, the flames would have trapped and engulfed the driver in the vehicle. The driver survived and was taken for treatment at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Said Police Chief Joseph Perkins in a press release: “Officer Savage’s quick and decisive actions led to saving this driver’s life, and it is an example of how every second counts at the scene of an incident. Officer Savage put himself in harm’s way to rescue the driver and I commend him for his heroic response.” ....
3-alarm fire strikes 2 buildings in Middleborough By Christine Mui Globe Correspondent,Updated January 15, 2021, 12:27 a.m. Email to a Friend After more than five hours, Middleborough firefighters extinguished a 3-alarm fire Thursday night, the third fire in the town in the last two days, an official said. The fire, which started at a home at 9 Wareham St., quickly jumped to a commercial building next door. Shortly before 6 p.m., the department received several 911 calls reporting back-to-back building fires, fire Lieutenant Julie Bryant said. Heavy smoke and flames was visible soon after fire crews arrived on the scene, she said. Mutual aid from nine surrounding communities, including Lakeville and Raynham, responded. ....
It was the third structure fire in Middleboro in two days, including two on Wareham Street. All occupants were able to safely exit before first responders arrived, the chief said. Two families were displaced from one of the buildings. No injuries were reported. This was the third significant fire Middleboro Fire Department has responded to in two days, Benjamino said. Thankfully no injuries have resulted, and we ve been able to call on several departments in the area to support our firefighting efforts. The other fires occurred at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at 530 Wareham St. and at around 9 p.m. Wednesday at 2 Montello St. ....
