Hauliers overwhelmed by red tape on NI deliveries

The warning came as Debenhams announced it was suspending online sales to Ireland
Hauliers have warned they are being overwhelmed by red tape due to new checks on deliveries to Northern Ireland from Britain following Brexit.
The industry body Logistics UK said deliveries were being delayed as lorries arrived in Belfast with incomplete paperwork following the end of the transition period on 31 December.
The organisation s Northern Ireland policy manager Seamus Leheny said the problems were a direct result of Boris Johnson s Brexit divorce settlement with Brussels.
The warning came as Debenhams announced it was suspending online sales to Ireland due to uncertainty about the new rules which mean some products are now subject to tariffs. ....

Police catch 84 lorries entering Kent without Brexit permit


Police have already caught 84 lorry drivers entering Kent without access permits newly required for travel to France.
The enforcement notices were issued in collaboration with the DVLA between New Year’s Day as January 6, as post-Brexit arrangements came into force.
A further 29 drivers were found to have breached traffic regulation orders, which included attempting to bypass the Operation Brock queue by accessing the M20 contraflow or using the A20 as an illegal shortcut.
A number of others were also stopped for exceeding their permitted drivers’ hours.
HGV drivers must have a Kent Access Permit if they are over 7.5 tonnes and leaving the country via the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel. ....

Men fined after breaking Coronavirus regualtions on Romney Marsh

A group of people have been find more than £2,000 after being caught breaching Covid-19 regulations.
Police officers found the group after being informed about possible hare coursing on Romney Marsh on Saturday.

The group of men were spotted by officers in a field near to Melon Lane, and tried to escape when police arrived.
They were stopped, and it was found that none of them were wearing face coverings or social distancing.
A total of 12 men were given fixed penalty notices of £200 each for breaching government rules, to a total of £2,400. ....

Statistics revealed today by Kent Police show how agencies worked together to solve the mayhem.

Police forces including Hampshire, Leicestershire and West Mercia were called in to help, and countless kind-hearted people and businesses donated food for Kent County Council to dish out to stranded truckers.
The total, about 8,400 hot meals were handed out.
After it was decided that only those with a negative Covid test could cross the Channel, mass testing was introduced and run by the Army. ....
