COVID vaccine appointments for veterans open in Fort Collins, Cheyenne

The Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Medical Center announced Friday it has hundreds of doses of the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines available to veterans as well as their spouses and caregivers.
The VA will hold a vaccination clinic May 15 in Cheyenne and has a number of openings during the week in Fort Collins and Cheyenne, said Billie Holstein, medical support assistant supervisor at the VA.
We are happy to open more appointments if we see demand for it,” Holstein said.
Enrolled veterans interested in receiving the vaccine may call 307-778-7550, press 8, then press 2 for the COVID-19 scheduling line.
Nonenrolled veterans, spouses and caregivers should register at www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/stay-informed, after which they will receive a call with appointment options. ....

Vaccine distribution "going well," but limited availability

CHEYENNE – About two weeks into the COVID-19 vaccine’s distribution in Wyoming, the focus is still on frontline medical workers, some first responders and people living in long-term care facilities – in other words, those most vulnerable to the virus.
But the process is rolling along, with 75-80% of people in the 1A priority group having so far been offered the vaccine, said Kathy Emmons, executive director of the Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department. Emmons said about 60% of those eligible have chosen to receive the vaccine so far, similar to what is being seen nationally.
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center President and CEO Tim Thornell said the rate is similar for hospital staff. Those electing not to immediately receive the vaccine aren’t saying no to it, Thornell said – they just don’t want to be among the first. Ultimately, he hopes “upwards of 80%” of staff will opt in. ....
