大运河通航了一千多年，白草洼村的渡口生意火了上百年，一直到1974年河水断流，白草洼村才逐渐淡出众人的视线。
“运河断流以后，白草洼村口一片荒凉，进村道路两侧光秃秃的，基本没有植被。”白草洼村党支部书记陈震告诉记者，那时候的白草洼村，整体看上去杂乱无章，很是荒凉。
2016年，景县将白草洼村作为省级美丽乡村样板来打造。深入挖掘地理历史人文资源，结合白草洼村与大运河的历史渊源、人文景观、淳朴民风，以“运河古渡口、美丽新乡村”为主题，打造“一轴”“一广场”“两馆”“四韵”“八景”为主线的美丽乡村。
铺设供水管道、安装路灯、改造旱厕、绿化街道、绘制文化墙……近年来，白草洼村借势大运河文化带建设，立足实际进行运河文化古村建设，实行运河大堤治理、沿途垃圾清理和村内环境卫生 ....
