Yoshiko Ushioda, who has died at the age of 92, was a former curator of the Chester Beatty and played a leading role in developing Irish-Japanese relations over six decades.
As they meticulously copied and studied texts, the need to navigate through lengthy volumes efficiently and return to specific sections became imperative.
