Someone driving past a home in the Lake View neighborhood in the dark of night slowed down to fling a used McDonald s coffee cup onto the edge of a front lawn before pulling away. The driver did it over and over again, nearly every day since then, throwing one or two coffee cups, sometimes with soggy cigarette butts inside, out the window and onto the property of Edward and Cheryl Patton. The couple eventually filled 10 garbage bags with more than 300 of these coffee cups. ....

Installing a security camera on a tree didn t help, but finally some neighbors spotted the littering driver in a minivan and got its license plate number. Turned out the culprit was a 76-year-old man named Larry Pope, who once worked with Cheryl and had a dispute over union issues. He was charged with harassment and littering - and the Pattons say the coffee cups have stopped. ....

Edward and Cheryl Patton told The Buffalo News they tried mounting a camera in a tree in front of their home in Lake View to catch the phantom litterer. But it wasn’t until some neighbors got involved recently and followed a minivan and jotted down its license plate number that there was a break in the case. After Edward Patton called police, they waited and pulled over a vehicle driven by 76-year-old Larry Pope, who Cheryl Patton said had once worked with her and had had disagreements with her over union issues. ....
