Craig Koller grew up splashing through backyard creeks and biking gravel trails, sometimes through the Johnson Control Industries Fire Technology Center. Black smoke wafted overhead as it conducted controlled burns to test firefighting foam, producing a dangerous “forever chemical” known as PFAS. 
As a kid growing up in the northern Wisconsin port city of Marinette, Koller didn’t think much of being around the facility or drinking the city’s water.   ....

As a kid growing up in the northern Wisconsin port city of Marinette, Koller didn’t think much of being around the facility or drinking the city’s water.  
“How would you have known? There’s no signs (at that time) saying, ‘Stay out: contamination,’ ” Koller, 32, said.  ....

Cheryl Lamont joins Irish FA Board as women’s football representative
The Irish Football Association Board, which is chaired by Stephen Martin, has three new members.
The appointments of Cheryl Lamont, Mervyn Martin and Simon McCoy were confirmed at a meeting of the association’s council on Monday evening.
Cheryl Lamont, who is the Co Antrim FA President and has played, coached and been a football administrator for many years, will be the women’s football representative on the 10-strong board.
At an EGM in December it was decided the board should have a representative for the women’s game in Northern Ireland going forward – and Ms Lamont is the first person to fill that role. ....

Potential failures in keeping public safe identified by inspectors reporting on Probation Board

POOR risk management planning of offenders and potential failures keeping the public safe have been identified by inspectors reporting on the Probation Board s (PBNI) work.
The Criminal Justice Inspectorate (CJI) and HM Inspectorate of Probation in England and Wales carried out detailed case file review of 84 probation cases and a series of interviews.
In the report released today, they praise PBNI work engaging offenders but warn it is not sufficiently focused on factors related to offending or public protection. ....
