Tyler Carlsen | The Young Folks

Tyler considers himself to be a true lover of movies and the magic that goes into making them. He spends most of his free time watching and absorbing film and television. From a very young age, film was an escape and an adventure that Tyler could never get enough of. Throughout his high school years he had the honor of working on an award winning independent short film, hosting a film reviewing segment on a public access station, working at two movie theaters, and attending a film festival as a young journalist for his cousin’s local paper. He is the one person that would never turn down going to a theater or staying home and watching a movie and talking about it immediately after. Tyler’s goal in life is to one day be one of the great writers and directors of the entertainment industry like his hero Steven Spielberg.

Cherry (2021) movie review | The Young Folks

0Shares The Russo Brothers have made themselves known in the film industry, mainly for their work on some of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After gigantic blockbuster films like the last two  Avengers films, I was curious to see what else they could tackle besides the superhero genre they had pretty thoroughly mastered. Shortly after  Avengers Endgame, it was announced that the brothers would be taking Tom Holland (Spider-Man) for a special project called  Cherry. The Russo Brothers definitely picked a gripping, emotional story and a perfect actor to play the lead character, but I wasn’t too impressed with most of their cinematography and directing choices.

Cherry movie review: Tom Holland shines in floundering, dreary crime drama

A still from ‘Cherry’ on Apple TV+   The Russo Brothers can’t quite recreate their ‘Avengers: Endgame’ magic in this dreary adaptation of Nico Walker’s novel One can feel every one of the 141 minutes of the grim drugs and crime drama, Cherry, ticking by excruciatingly slowly. Earlier offerings by the Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe, Captain America: Civil War (147 minutes), Avengers: Infinity War (149 minutes) and Avenger: Endgame at a bottom-numbing 181 minutes zipped by merrily, immersed as we were in a click of Thanos’ fingers and its disastrous consequences. Cherry review: Tom Holland stands out in somewhat bloated novel adaptation

Cherry review: The scenes depicted in Iraq were stunning (Image: APPLE TV PLUS) READ MORE Holland brings a unique physicality to the role while expertly fighting through his emotions. After running a mile to save a fallen friend, the young Marvel star still had enough acting prowess to deliver some of the most touching scenes in any film from this year yet. Holland lost more than 25lbs to reach into the follow-up chapter of the movie - Dope Life. After turning to drugs to deal with the trauma he had witnessed first hand, the protagonist falls into a vicious cycle of robbing banks to buy daily doses of heroin.
