Part of Chemainus Road Closed This Week SHARE ON: Chemainus Road between Mount Sicker and Crofton Roads is closed from today until late on Friday. The Municipality of North Cowichan says a sanitary line needs to be replaced beneath a rail crossing and the work is expected to require four days. Detours will be in place for people who would normally use Chemainus Road where it crossed the Halalt First Nation. Drivers coming from the north will detour at Henry road and traffic from the south will divert at Herd Road. ....
VICTORIA North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Chemainus on Valentine s Day. RCMP officers were called to the 9900-block of Chemainus Road for reports of a man being struck by a vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Mounties, paramedics and the Chemainus Fire Department responded to the call. When first responders arrived, they found the man lying just off of the road. He had already succumbed to his injuries. Multiple organizations are now investigating the incident, including North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroners Service. ....
The driver fled the scene before officers arrived to find a man lying dead beside the highway. “Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, have dash cam footage or have information about this collision to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP,” media relations Cpl. Chris Manseau said in a news release. “This is a busy section of road, and even though the weather wasn’t great, investigators feel there was enough traffic for someone to have seen or heard something that can assist the investigation.” Police investigators, forensic experts and crash analysts are working with the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence and find the driver. ....
