Penn State softball (5-30) was swept yet again this weekend, as it fell to Indiana (23-17) in all four games. There were inconsistencies on both sides of the field throughout the weekend, where in some cases the offense didn’t do enough to win, and in others the pitching fell short. Despite the constant losing, there have been some bright spots for the Nittany Lions. Mel Coombs has been hitting the ball well, and Ally Kurland continues to be one of the better power hitters in the lineup. Kylee Lingenfelter has also shown a lot of improvement in the circle, despite what her record says. ....
Penn State softball (5-22) could not pull out a series win against Maryland (14-18) in College Park this weekend. The Nittany Lions dropped three of four contests. Vanessa Oatley was the most consistent pitcher in the circle, while Kennedy Legg led the offense with some great firepower. The Nittany Lions’ only win of the series came in a defensive battle Saturday afternoon. Game One The first game of the Friday doubleheader was a nail-biter for the Nittany Lions, but they fell to the Terrapins 1-0. Bailey Parshall stepped into the circle for the start, pitching six innings and striking out six. Unfortunately for her, the defense was not on her side. Maggie Finnegan committed two errors over the course of the game, and the only run scored came off of a Michelle Leone error. ....
Penn State softball (1-18) was unable to squeak out a win during its three-game series against Ohio State (12-7) this past weekend. The Nittany Lion came close in game one, but were blown out in games two and three before the final game was Maggie Finnegan, Mel Coombs, Melina Livingston and Chelsea Bisi were the only sources of offense for the Nittany Lions throughout the weekend, and the pitching staff continued to struggle outside of a complete game from Bailey Parshall in game one. Other than those performances, the Nittany Lions struggled to remain competitive. Game One The first game of the Saturday doubleheader didn’t go Penn State’s way, as it fell to Ohio State 2-1. ....
