Genevieve High School baseball team accomplished something not too many others have this season against state-ranked Valle Catholic. The Warriors were extended the full seven-inning game, and Valle Catholic blanked Ste. Genevieve 7-0 at Yanks Field. This “Old Settlement Showdown” game was originally scheduled for Alumni Field in Valle Springs; however, field conditions prompted the move to Yanks. The Warriors were the officially the “home” team. “Ste. Genevieve is a quality baseball team, and they made some outstanding defensive plays in our game,” Valle Catholic head coach Nathan Gegg said. “They made plays when they needed to, and made big pitches in big spots. They made us work for all seven innings.” ....
Protecting your own basketball court can become a cherished entity. That’s what recently happened on a recent Saturday afternoon at Peggy J. Johnson Gymnasium and Peggy would have been proud of the Ste. Genevieve junior varsity boys’ basketball team. The Dragons won their own “Old Settlement Tournament” on Jan. 23 under 10th-year coach Jonathan Robinson. “When you have a week where you play six games in seven days, you find out the character of your team,” Robinson said. “I thought we played good team basketball, guys accepted their roles and did the little things it takes to win,” the coach added. ....

Genevieve High School head boys’ basketball coach Robert Coleman has a tradition of starting as many seniors as possible on “Senior Night.” It serves as a reward for the players who have been with the program the longest; this year, Chaytin Lea, Landon Rose, Logan Trollinger and Anthony Nash. The seniors, and the rest of the Dragons, rewarded the coach with a come-from-behind 65-60 victory over Potosi in a heated, pivotal Mineral Area Activities Association Large School Division contest. “It was a great win for our seniors on Senior Night,” Coleman said. “Those guys played well.” ....
