DOVER City council will be issuing subpoenas for copies of a large number of documents as part of its investigation into the conduct of Mayor Richard Homrighausen, including emails he sent to his wife, Linda, and his sons Nicholas and Peter. The action was taken Monday during a meeting of council s committee of the whole. Meanwhile, Homrighausen has retained the Columbus law firm of Zashin & Rich to serve as his personal legal advisers. The law firm sent a letter to Council President Shane Gunnoe on Monday requesting that council not proceed with the investigation, saying council has no legal authority to do so. ....
Gilpin Township has a vacancy on its water and sewer authority board. Supervisors chairman Charlie Stull confirmed Friday that Joel Knepshield stepped down from the municipal authority last month. Stull said Knepshield cited work obligations in his resignation letter. The township is looking to find a replacement as soon as possible, Stull said. Members of the municipal authority board oversee all water and sewer projects in the township. Board members are volunteers, but Township Secretary Sonya Mazak said they receive $35 for each monthly meeting they attend. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Armstrong County businesses that were forced to close last month because of restrictions imposed by Gov. Tom Wolf could be eligible for emergency grant money under a program announced Tuesday. Armstrong County Commissioners said $250,000 is available through the county’s Covid-19 Emergency Business Grant Program. Eligible businesses can receive a one-time emergency grant of up to $2,500. Eligible businesses include bars, social clubs, fitness centers and gyms, churches, bowling facilities and locally owned dine-in restaurants in Armstrong County. The grant money comes from $5.8 million in CARES Act funding awarded to Armstrong County last year. ....

Volunteers needed at Kiski Valley Cat & Kitten Rescue Kiski Valley Cat & Kitten Rescue in Apollo is seeking volunteers and donations. The organization is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty and neglect toward cats and kittens and provides shelter and necessary medical care until they can find their forever home. The shelter usually runs at full capacity. Volunteers are needed to clean and replenish food and water bowls, clean litter boxes, shelter floors and enclosures and play with the cats and kittens and are asked to commit to at least one shift per week.
