.- Ecological issues are of crucial importance in our era of climate upheaval, and it is only natural for contemporary artists to take up these topics in their practice and thinking. Presented at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition Ecologies: A Song for Our Planet includes installations, videos, sculptures, paintings, drawings and photographs that convey humanity’s relationship with nature. The nearly 90 works, which are being exhibited in rotation, mostly come from the MMFA’s collection and include recent acquisitions by Jocelyne Alloucherie, Shuvinai Ashoona, Olafur Eliasson, Charles Gagnon, Lorraine Gilbert, Jessica Houston, Isabelle Hayeur, Alec Lawson Tuckatuck, Lisette Lemieux ....

Book review: Novel has millions of refugees in Kamloops area due to Asian nuclear war

The influx of millions of refugees is the result of a brutal nuclear war between China and Russia that destroyed both countries and devastated the world economy, a scenario that occurs early in MacWha’s book, Eastern Horizons, leading to the fallout globally literally and otherwise.
While the economic crisis and political opportunism flows from a war that has fundamentally changed society, one can read the book and see parallels to the impact of, and reactions to, the current COVID-19 pandemic that has also changed society as we know it.
This despite the fact MacWha was writing Eastern Horizons long before the novel coronavirus upended our way of life. That is was published in the midst of the pandemic, in August 2020, only adds to its relevance to today’s global situation. ....

New exhibitions for Spring-Summer 2021 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

This spring, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) will open three exhibitions that address important societal issues through the work of contemporary artists. Starting in March, the exhibition Ecologies: A Song for Our Planet will explore the relationship between humans and nature, and disruptions to the planet’s ecosystems caused by human intervention. Then, in April, two monographic exhibitions will respectively spotlight Montreal contemporary artists Yann Pocreau, whose interest has turned to cosmology in his recent photography explorations, and Caroline Monnet, whose work sensitively depicts the precarious living conditions experienced by Canada’s Indigenous communities.
Adding to this, visitors will be able to continue to enjoy the major exhibition Riopelle: The Call of Northern Landscapes and Indigenous Cultures until September 12, and the discovery exhibition GRAFIK! Five Centuries of German and Austrian Graphics until July 4. ....

“Haven’t written for years now! The inspiration dried up. Besides, what you suggest has already been done. No need for me to redo it.”

We would certainly like to get a copy of such a publication so as to compare notes with our own Pachamama and to retrain the parrots in Parliament.
Such a publication would worth more in literary value than the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Which printing house in Bim would be that risqué as to print Bajan cuss words as a project for public consumption?
For it would certainly be accused of corrupting and usurping the genteel moral air of Bajan hypocrisy; and, like the ‘in-plain-sight’ widespread Bajan poverty, should be hidden away from inquisitive eyes. ....

Investor puts millions into expanding Barbados fruit and vegetable varieties

Investor puts millions into expanding Barbados fruit and vegetable varieties
Canadian Charles Gagnon, who has lived in Barbados for the past decade, has stated that he was eager to see Barbados growing more of the fruits and vegetables it consumes, as he thought that there was too much focus on sugarcane production over the years, with very little on food production.
“A lot of the tropical fruits and vegetables should grow well here so we should really look at replacing these imports. You kind of don’t know where they come from or how they are grown,” he said, pointing out that his farm would be using ‘as little’ chemicals as possible. ....
