LIVINGSTON, NJ  Residents, first responders and township officials stopped by the Livingston Memorial Oval last week to remember local soldiers during a National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony, where certificates were presented to the families of Livingston’s Vietnam War Veterans and special tribute was paid to former township manager Charles Chuck Tahaney, a local veteran who died in February.
During the ceremony, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2856 and American Legion Post 201 invited the public to help them honor all those who actively served their country from 1975 to 1995.
“When Vietnam vets came back to this country after fighting, they were shamed,” said Livingston Mayor Shawn Klein. “Not only was it traumatic for them to go to war, but it was also traumatic for them to come back especially, if you can imagine, for someone who s suffering from PTSD and the like.
