All Cannings gets 55 news trees thanks to a birthday whip round

Belinda Mead had asked for donations from family and friends towards planting trees in the village. Most of them were dug into in a field belonging to Charles Butcher and sons which runs parallel with the canal by Woodway bridge. The trees were requested by the Butcher family in memory of all the elms that stood in the village until they had to be removed when elm disease struck in the early 70 s. A wonderful team of volunteers came along to help on a chilly winter s day and made the task pretty effortless, helped also by Mr Butcher having made holes with his JCB digger prior to planting day, said Belinda.

Article of the Year - 2020 - Journal of Peace Research

The Nils Petter Gleditsch JPR Article of the Year Award, 2020, goes to Jana Krause. A jury consisting of Anja Shortland (King s College London), Zeynep Taydas (Clemson University) and Charles Butcher (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) have awarded this year s Nils Petter Gleditsch Article of the Year to All articles published in JPR s 57th volume were eligible for the award. Articles were judged on their theoretical contribution, methodological sophistication and substantive relevance. As ever, the jury was faced with the tricky task of adjudicating between many outstanding articles. According to the jury, the prize-winning article addresses an important and overlooked research question and makes an impressive contribution to the communal conflict literature by systematically examining the variation in sexual violence across cases of election violence.
