everywhere. i thought it was a dream. a dream? more like a nightmare, if you want to be honest about it. this is what was left behind by a strong storm. total devastation. several tornadoes touched down. as many as 28 people are dead. in some areas, rescue crews worked deep into the night to find survivors and victims. national guard troops were called up to kentucky and indiana to the hardest hit communities. you can see tornado in tennessee. dozens of people were injured in the storms. we are watching all angles of the story this morning. susan c susan is in ohio. rob is in tennessee where we have seen significant damage. bonnie schneider is standing by in the severe weather center. the damage we have seen have been small towns like henriville. how bad is it? reporter: it is very bad. crushing damage. people here are reeling from what happened to the area. 15 deaths confirmed so far in the entire state of kentucky. a couple of them here in clark county. just to gi ....
surveys with a team of people. the military has also moved in with search and rescue vehicles. in the south side of town in my live stream you can see there s four to five homes farms that had heavy damage and are gone. the tornado here was about 200 yards wide and it tracked through the city on the southeast side. everybody has been accounted for. most people are we do not have any injuries, just a couple injuries, no fatalities but marked damage on the south side of town. you re talking to us at the same time you re live streaming these images for us and in these images we are seeing people walking around. are these residents that are surveying the damage or are these first responders who are there to help, volunteers? reporter: both. we have a lot of local people here that are people walking down the streets that are local residents and family members. a lot of these people s farms have been here for a while, many generations. one family here on the south sid ....
let s talk about what concentrated areas are kind of in the bull s-eye, so to speak right now. florida among them. north florida and southern parts of georgia. it s really this squall line we are looking at right here that has the most potential for producing tornadic storms. right now there are no tornado warnings that are in effect. some of those thunderstorms could produce wind damage in excess of 60 miles per hour. sometimes those real down burst winds can cause as much damage as a tornado. you still need to stay indoors. another place that we are watching that s included in this tornado threat is jacksonville, florida. there you can see a live picture from jacksonville at this time. it s extremely windy. that s why you see all that crazy shaking going on on the camera there. 86 degrees. it s a very warm, very moist, ripe atmosphere. as that cold front starts to come on down and move into the region, that s when we are going to start to see that severe weather thr ....
