BWA to conduct repairs at Golden Ridge

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will be replacing a damaged pipeline at its Golden Ridge station on Friday. Wounding accused remanded - Barbados Today

When he was asked to tell the court why he should not be remanded to HMP Dodds, Anthony Junior Bishop could not come up with a suitable defence.“I trying hard to keep myself out of trouble but I can’t take getting unfair all the time,” the 23-year-old of Chapman Village, St Thomas, told Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.It was not enough to gain him his freedom and he was subsequently remanded to prison until October 4.Bishop was not required to plead to unlawfully wounding Tyrone Holford on September 2, 2022 with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him.

State must pay former accused for breach of constitutional rights

Queen’s Counsel Larry Smith recently secured another constitutional court victory against the state.This time it was on behalf of former accused Shamar Tyrone Patrick of Chapman Village, St Thomas who was awarded $35 000, by the High Court, for breach of his constitutional rights.Patrick was 16 years old when he was charged with the February 3, 2006 offence of causing serious bodily harm with intent to maim, disfigure or disable another.The matter was before the Magistrates’ Court and after multiple adjournments the preliminary inquiry got underway before now retired Magistrate Roberts Simmons on February 16, 2007 and went on until July 23, 2012. It was then adjourned sine die and never came back on for hearing.
