Nepra asks Discos to refund 26 paisa/unit in July bills

ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers, who paid higher rates in May 2021, will be getting refunds of Rs 0.2644/unit in their July bills after the power regulator maintained in its latest decision that the power generation cost was low during the month under review while the consumers were charged high rates.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) took the decision in a public hearing on June 29. And on Monday, it formally notified it.
It is to be noted that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had filed a petition with the Nepra, seeking a reduction of Rs 0.1255/unit on account of fuel adjustment. It claimed that the actual pool fuel cost for the month of May 2021 was Rs 5.8067/unit, against the reference fuel cost component of Rs 5.9322/unit. However, the regulator has allowed extra release of Rs 0.2644 per unit to the consumers.
Official rate of sugar not implemented anywhere

LAHORE:The Punjab government managed to supply sugar at official ex-mill rate of Rs80 per kg in Akbari Mandi and it was sold at Rs83 per kg first time since it has fixed the rate of sugar.
But the supply of the sugar was limited and it vanished the same day and the commodity was not available in wholesale and retail markets at official rate of Rs83 and Rs85 per kg, respectively. On Tuesday, the district government with the help of cane commissioner office was somehow able to manage to lift some sugar at official Rs80-ex-mill from some sugar mills and supplied it to Akbari Mandi. The supply was thin while the sugar already vanished from the wholesale market since the price order was issued by the industry department a couple of days ago.
