　　最早有关长乐的记载出现在三国时期，距今近两千年。三国时，东吴在吴航头（今长乐区吴航街道）置典船校尉，集结东汉谪徙者（罪犯）在此造船。长乐据此又别称吴航。　　晋朝惠帝时，将扬州部太康分为建安郡和晋安郡，长乐属晋安郡原丰县（今福州），魏晋时分别有：河阳乡（即今吴航街道）、岱阳乡（即今首占镇岱边村）、北燕乡（即今潭头金峰交界处）、晋平乡（即今罗联乡）、方安乡（即今江田镇西北）、长央乡（即今北山村一带）、昌乐乡（即今沙京村）。　　隋朝大业间，晋安郡改为建安郡，长乐属闽县。　　上元元年（760年），长乐县治迁到吴航头（今吴航街道）。元和三年（808年），长乐县并入福唐县（今福清）。元和五年（810年），复置长乐县。　　1994年2月，长乐撤县设市，仍隶属福州市管辖。2017年11月6日
