Chang was born in France to her father Chang Shuhong, the founding director of Dunhuang Academy. At the age of 12, she followed her father into the caves of Dunhuang and learned to sketch and paint the murals. Since then, her life and career have been immersed in Dunhuang culture.
Recalling her bittersweet experiences during her teen years in Dunhuang, Gansu province, 93-year-old Chang Shana can't help but smile while remembering those days.
