Musk s SpaceX to launch Botswana s first-ever satellite :: Mmegi Online

PALAPYE: Botswana’s highly anticipated inaugural satellite BotswanaSat-1 (BOTSAT-1) will be launched by billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX. Musk is also the founder of Tesla (manufacturer of electric cars) and most recently acquired Twitter and rebranded it to X. SpaceX, which will launch BOTSAT-1, is the maker of Starship and known for its International Space Station missions.

Following the emergence of Corona Virus pandemic in the country, the  Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) became one of the institutions that worked tirelessly to help the government by producing products that helped with the fight against the pandemic which have ravaged not only Botswana, but also the entire world. Speaking at the virtual awards ceremony which was held to appreciate BIUST staff and students who took part in the  production of the products, in Palapye recently,  BIUST Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo applauded the awardees for  working determinedly to produce COVID 19 response products in a concerted effort to assist the Botswana Government  combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

BIUST holds virtual cybersecurity symposium

CAUTIOUS: Minister Segokgo The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) held a successful three-day virtual Cybersecurity Symposium on Tuesday. The symposium was held under the theme: “Our Cyber state of affairs: Securing Botswana’s cyberspace for all”. Giving an overview of the event, Dr. Oteng Tabona said the Symposium is an event meant to close gaps in awareness and understanding of the cybersecurity state of affairs in Botswana. He said the BIUST Cyber Security Research Group is dedicated to addressing global challenges in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and networking. “The group aims to be at the forefront of cybersecurity research and lead in the areas like; publications, awareness campaigns, cyber emergency response (CERT), SOC, academic program development, training services, consultation, conferences and workshops, industrial collaborations, and international collaborations,” he said.
