The governor there says the air in the cave where the boys are is still safe and that they can run around and play. Rescue teams have also drilled more than 100 holes in the cave looking for an opening, but thus far, to no avail. Good morning, everybody. It is monday, july 9th. Im actually joined this morning by Nbc News International correspondent cal perry. We will begin with breaking news from thailand. Rescue efforts resumed this morning for the remaining eight boys and their soccer coach who have been trapped in that cave more than two weeks now. Four boys believed to have been in the weakest condition were rescued yesterday and taken to a hospital for evaluation. This is video of one of them after emerging from the cave being rushed to a waiting helicopter. Joining us from the hospital in chiang rai, thailand is nbc news correspondent janis Mackey Frayer. Some unbelievable images coming out of thailand. We are hoping and praying for the safe return of the boys and the coach as the mission continues. Talk to us about the latest on this. The rest of the Team Spending another night right now in the depths of that dark cave where theyve been trapped for more than two weeks. Rescue crews are plotting their next move as oxygen levels drop, monsoon rains move in threatening to seal off the cave. Cnn has reporters on the scene. Jonathan miller near the cave entrance and cnns matt rivers outside the hospital where the four boys are now being treated. Lets go first to jonathan miller. This was just an extraordinary rescue. Eight boys and their coach still until the cave. What are we waiting for next rescue . Do we have to wait another 15 hours or so . Yes, it could be 10 and 20 hours before they can restart f the rescue operation. The reason is apparently so many of the oxygen canisters had been used up in bringing these four boys out that they needed to replenish supplies down th ....
Ago, is that there has been the oxygen tanks that had been prepositioned down throughout the cavern system needed to be replaced. They didnt just keep on bringing boys out until they had got more oxygen tanks inside. He said there would be a 10 to 20hour hiatus. Thats already five hours old, that information. We can expect the next batch of boys, we think theyre going to come out in three batches of three, the next lot, to start again in probably 12 hours time or so. We know that the operation today went remarkably successfully. Normally it takes these incredibly experienced cave divers six hours to exit from the chamber where the boys have been for this past two weeks to the outside. It took them just 7 1 2 hours with one of the boys. And that included a period where they had a medical checkup before they left and as they exited in chamber 3, a section of the cave which is not flooded. So it went very well so far.
