Sitalkuchi violence: EC announces compensation for kin of deceased in Cooch Behar; CID takes over case


The Election Commission has given a clean chit to CISF in connection with the Sitalkuchi violence incident.

Kolkata: The Election Commission of India on Friday announced to give compensation to the kin of the four Cooch Behar violence victims. Four villagers of Jor Patki village in Sitalkuchi were killed in the firing of the central forces in West Bengal and one person was killed by some unknown miscreants while coming out after casting vote.
The CISF personnel had opened fire after they allegedly came under attack from a group of villager at 126/5 in Jorpatki in Sitalkuchi Assembly constituency where polling was underway for the fourth phase of West Bengal election 2021 on April 10. ....

Kolkata: Despite violence and bloodbath in the fourth phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal on Saturday, which saw five people get killed at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district, the state recorded a relatively low turnout of 76.16 per cent till 5 p.m.
A total of five people were killed in two separate incidents in Cooch Behar district on Saturday. Four persons were killed when central forces opened fire on an unruly mob in Sitalkuchi Assembly constituency in Mathabhanga block, while in another incident in the same constituency, a first-time voter was killed. ....
