State House Insists ACB Free From Chakwera’s Interference ACB is free- Banda Mzuzu, May 11, Mana: State House Press Secretary, Brian Banda, has reiterated President Lazarus Chakwera’s commitment never to interfere with Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)’s operations, let alone protect anyone found on the wrong side of the law. He made the remarks on Monday during State House Briefing in Mzuzu when he was asked to confirm if the President had met with ACB officials over alleged dubious accommodation payments to Cross Roads Hotel which implicates state house officials. While he could not confirm whether the meeting took place or not, Banda said ACB is an independent body and that Chakwera cannot dictate its operations. ....
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will today lay a wreath on the mausoleum of late Chakufwa Chihana, one of the pioneers of the multiparty democracy in the country. State House Press officer Brian Banda has confirmed of the development in a statement released on Sunday made available to faceofmalawi. According to Banda, Chakwera will arrive at the mausoleum anytime from now. Chihana, founder of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) died in 2006 and was buried in Mzuzu City. President Lazarus Chakwera has laid a wreath at the tombstone of the Late Chakufwa Chihana who was president of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD). Speaking after laying a wreath, Chakwera said his visit to lay a wreath at Chihana’s resting place is a step towards the reconciliation process his new (MCP) has embarked on. Then Chakwera promised to construct a befitting mausoleum for Chakufwa Chihana and other fallen heroes. On his part, son to late Chihana, Enock said Chakwera is the first sitting president to follow proper channels in his quest to lay a wreath at Chakufwa Chihana’s burial place. ....

Speaking during the first face to face State House Weekly Brief after a few months of going virtual, Banda said the President has several times reiterated that he will not shield anyone found guilty of the malpractice.
