Mystery Group Removes Anti-Harassment Posters From Park Square


The posters were found across the street, some piled up by the church, some stuck back into the ground.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. A strange act of vandalism occurred on Tuesday around noon when the Berkshire Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force s art installation in Park Square that calls attention to street harassment was taken down and moved.
It is not clear whether this was a prank or an act of harassment.
Somebody thought it would be amusing to take down all our signs and move them across the street and put them on the church and the bank lawns,  planning committee co-chair Susan Birns said, who went immediately to the scene when notified by a task force member around 4 on Tuesday. ....

Pittsfield Homelessness Advisory Committee OKs Open Microphone


 
The Homelessness Advisory Committee on Wednesday voted to include a 15-minute open microphone at the beginning of their sessions, allowing members of the public to speak for three minutes each.
 
This was brought to the panel by Ward 7 Councilor Anthony Maffuccio and passed 8-5 with Berkshire Department of Mental Health Site Director Christine Haley, Chairwoman Kim Borden, Community Development & Housing Program Manager Justine Dodds, Christian Center Food Director Karen Ryan, and re-entry facilitator at Berkshire County Sheriff s Office Michael McMahon voting in opposition.
 
Committee member Edward Carmel, who was not present at this meeting, has previously spoken in support of having an open microphone at meetings. ....

Pittsfield Food Truck Offers Homemade Mexican Fare

PITTSFIELD, Mass. There is a new family-owned food truck serving authentic, homemade Mexican food to Berkshire County.
Owners Nancy and Cain Serrano opened La Chalupa Y La Enchilada a play on their daughters being a little one and big one on March 1.  
I had a lot of help from a lot of people, Serrano said in regard to building the food truck. I appreciate all of my friends, thank you.
Seven years ago, Serrano first had the dream to own a food truck so that he could continue his passion for cooking while spending more time with his family.   ....

Former Homeless Panel Chair Voices Concerns on New Advisory Committee


PITTSFIELD, Mass. The chairman of the former homeless committee has concerns about transparency and governing within the newly established Homeless Advisory Committee and believes Chairwoman Kim Borden s ambiguous speech addressing disrespect within the panel was  out of line.
Edward Carmel, who had been chair of the rescinded Homelessness Prevention Committee, identified himself as the target of Borden s comments in last week s HAC meeting and told iBerkshires that two agenda items he attempted to submit were the reason for her testimony.
I m looking out for the other residents,  he said. I am a huge advocate of helping homeless because I was homeless and it s just not right, we re just not doing it right and they won t take suggestions from nobody. ....
