African Union commits to supporting UNODC Strategic Vision for Africa 2030 - New Delhi Times

On February 24, 2021, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) launched the Office’s Strategic Vision for Africa 2030. According to the UNODC, Africa has made considerable gains towards the Sustainable Development Goals and the aspirations of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union: The Africa We Want. Yet progress in several areas is not advancing at the scale nor speed required. Around the globe and in Africa, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to reverse progress, hitting those most vulnerable hardest, and risking them being left behind further. African Union Calls for Increased Investment and Strengthening Strategic and Multilateral Partnerships to Tackle the World Drug Problem

The African Union Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, H.E Amira Elfadil, has called for strengthening the strategic and multilateral partnerships as well as increased investment by Members States to comprehensively address the world drug problem exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioner was speaking at a high level event held virtually to launch an ambitious strategic plan to tackle the impact of drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism on the continent over the next decade by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
