Brattleboro votes no on school district withdrawal

BRATTLEBORO â Voters in the four towns that make up the newly formed Windham Southeast School District decided overwhelmingly against withdrawing from the district.
Withdrawal of any town from the district required that voters in that town agree to withdraw and all the other towns agree to let it leave.
In Brattleboro, the vote against withdrawal was 1,555 to 226. They also voted 1,451 to 320 against allowing the other towns in the district, Dummerston, Guilford and Putney, to withdraw. ....

BRATTLEBORO â School tax bills are no longer projected to increase by as much, thanks to quick work by the Vermont House Ways and Means Committee after reassessing how revenues will affect the Education Fund.
Rep. Emilie Kornheiser, D-Windham-2-1, who serves as vice chairwoman of the committee, said a yield bill that factors into school tax rates usually doesnât change projected rates all that much before they are voted on because state officials have a better grasp on revenues. But this year was different due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought about some concern about revenues that was later calmed by new information on how federal aid affected the Education Fund. ....

Merger breakup pitched for Windham Southeast School District

BRATTLEBORO â Individual school boards could be coming back to Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford and Putney.
At a meeting held remotely Tuesday, the Windham Southeast School District board voted 7-1 to include on the annual March warning an article about dissolving the board and returning to local board governance in each of the four towns. Board member Shaun Murphy voted against the move and Michelle Luetjen Green abstained.
The board also voted that if the power to warn the articles doesnât fall under its providence, it will immediately request each townâs select board include articles about dissolution on warnings in March votes. Murphy abstained. ....
