Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chairman M. Cholil Nafis was vociferous in emphasizing that liquor cannot be legalized on grounds of adhering to local wisdom.
On the basis of local wisdom, liquor still cannot be legalized, Nafis notified reporters in Jakarta on Monday in response to the government s policy to allow investment in the liquor industry in several provinces.
I personally do not agree with the liquor investment, although it is only permitted in four provinces, he remarked. ....

Authorities on the Indonesian island of Sumatra charged four healthcare workers with blasphemy, a crime in the country, on Tuesday after they allegedly violated Islamic law by bathing a deceased coronavirus patient’s corpse despite not being her
mahram, or unmarriable close family.
Islamic law forbids women from exposing their
aurat, or parts of their body normally covered for modesty’s sake, to men who are not their
mahram. The rule applies to the pre-burial bathing ritual of deceased persons practiced in Islam, which can only be performed for a deceased female by her 
mahram.
Two nurses and two forensic staff members employed by a state hospital in North Sumatra province bathed a 50-year-old deceased female coronavirus patient in September 2020 as part of the hospital’s routine post-mortem hygiene practice but failed to ensure that the deceased woman’s family members or female hospital staff observed the bathing. ....

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investigators of Jakarta Police did not detain five suspects in the case of violation of government health protocols at several crowd-pulling events in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, last month after completing their interrogation on Sunday and Monday.
Unlike Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq Shihab, who was immediately taken into police custody shortly after completion of his interrogation over this health protocol breach case, the police investigators sent the five suspects home.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police investigators have issued an ultimatum to five suspects in  the case of alleged breach of the government s health protocols in several crowds-pulling events in Petamburan last month to meet the police s summon.
As conveyed by the head (of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police s public relations division), they are given two options. Either they surrender or get arrested, National Police Spokesman Inspector General Argo Yuwono told journalists here early Sunday.
This week, the Jakarta police had named six people suspects of the violation of health protocos during the events at Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq Shihab s home and te FPI headquarters in Petamburan, Jakarta, last month. ....
