Thunder Bay City Council meeting, March 23, 2020 (Screenshot) It could be another long night for Thunder Bay city council, as it prepares to ratify the 2021 budget tonight. That means any topic, such as the contentious Thunder Bay sign, could be brought forward. Councillor Mark Bentz says heated discussion is to be expected, but the pandemic does not help. “I look at the pandemic as putting a lot of stress on the members around the table, and the virtual meetings are not as affective as meetings in person. So, these things can occur.” That’s not the only hot button topic council is facing head on tonight… the question of whether to allow hockey nets on outdoor rinks is also on the agenda. The final night of public deputations led to one councillor being ruled out of order. Council received feedback on the budget Thursday, but it was the first one from Henry Wojack that gave way to chair Mark Bentz putting his foot down with fellow At Large Councillor Aldo Ruberto. Wojack’s presentation focused on a few topics, which included reducing the municipal tax levy increase by 0.65%. He also wanted to discuss the Police Services Board which gave way to Aldo Ruberto to asking whether Wojack had done research on the number of incidents that local police deal with as compared to municipalities of a similar size. ....
