Port of San Diego Names Sandy Naranjo as New Port Commissioner

Sandy Naranjo has been named as the newest Port commissioner to represent National City.
Naranjo was sworn in on Jan. 3 via a virtual ceremony by her sister, Susan Naranjo, who was deputized by Port Clerk Donna Morales to administer the oath of office.
“On behalf of the Board of Port Commissioners, I welcome Sandy Naranjo and look forward to her perspective and expertise,” said Chair Ann Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “(Naranjo) brings a diverse background, a strong presence and an active voice to represent National City and all Californians. She will be a true asset to the Board as we move forward with an exciting yet challenging year ahead.” ....

Port of San Diego picks defense executive as new CEO

Joe Stuyvesant, executive director of Navy Region of the Southwest, has been named president and CEO of the San Diego Unified Port District.
Monday, Port of San Diego Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of Stuyvesant during closed session. The board is expected to approve Stuyvesant’s five-year contract at the Jan. 19 meeting and he is anticipated to start on Feb. 1.
Stuyvesant, who will receive a salary of $325,000, joins the agency after decades with the United States Navy in top military and civilian posts, including his most recent role overseeing administrative operations of Navy bases in California and Nevada. The defense executive, for instance, supervised the building of the Navy’s long-awaited new headquarters, Navy Building One, at 750 Pacific Highway. Previously, he served in the Navy for 30 years, primarily as a naval aviator. ....

Harbor Park, a $47.5M coastal attraction in Chula Vista, OK'd by port

Harbor Park, a $47.5 million coastal attraction that includes 25 acres of public beach and park land in the South Bay, is now on track to break ground in 2023.
Tuesday, Port of San Diego commissioners unanimously approved a coastal development permit for the park. It is a central public-access and tourist-drawing component of the reimagined shoreline crafted in what’s known as the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan.
The action sets in motion a park development timeline tied to construction of the Gaylord Pacific Resort Hotel and Convention Center. It is expected to parallel, in part, construction of a $12 million sister park known as Sweetwater Park. Together, the two public outdoor venues constitute 46 acres of new or improved waterfront park space for locals and visitors. ....
