A growing number of voters in Schenectady County would rather have no affiliation than align themselves with a political party. 
Over a five-year span, those residents who have registered with no party affiliation, have grown 13.9% to 26,256 active voters as of February 2021, up from 23,049 active voters in November 2017, according to state enrollment figures. 
The trend is not just evident in Schenectady County; it can also be found at the state level. During the same time period, New York saw a growth of 15.1% in voters choosing to have no party affiliation.  ....

Schenectady firefighters find new home in Working Families Party

SCHENECTADY Registration in the Working Families Party in Schenectady County is on the uptick.
The party has seen enrollment increase 21 percent since last November, according to the county Board of Elections.
The Working Families Party had 618 registered members in Schenectady County last November, a number that increased to 750 by Feb. 21, according to election data.
As with similar surges in Rensselaer and Saratoga counties, the party s leadership is wondering if the influx has more to do with electoral antics as opposed to genuine interest in progressive principles.
Chad Putman, a Working Families Party state committee member for the city of Schenectady, acknowledged the party didn’t engage in sustained voter outreach over the past year, calling it a “missed opportunity.” ....
